Synopsis

Excerpt from The Tablet From Yuzgat, in the Liverpool Institute of Archaeology, Vol. 11 The script used is the style of Babylonian cuneiform common in Asia Minor at the period when it was written, which would seem to have been somewhere about the fifteenth century before Christ. In general, the system is syllabic, the syllables being derived from the old Sumero Akkadian language of Babylonia, but certain of. The words are written ideographically. It is these ideographs which have furnished the key to the document, and enabled its nature to be roughly determined, for in all probability their meanings would have been unascertainable had the words they represent been written syllabically.
